Indications
- Fever. - Treatment of pain such as headache, toothache, neuralgia and myalgia. - Nausea and vomiting.
Warning & Precautions
For children the maximum dose of metoclopramide is 0.5mg /kg daily since the higher doses may lead to extra-pyramidal effects.

Dosage
- Under 1year : ½ teaspoonful three times daily . - 1-5 years : ½ -1 teaspoonful three times daily . - 6-12 years : 1-2 teaspoonfuls three times daily . The total daily dosage of metoclopramide especially in children and young adults should not exceed 500 micrograms per kilogram body weight.
Adverse Reactions
- Extra pyramidal symptoms occur in approximately 0.2% -1% . - Depression may occur
Contra Indications
- Do not use in situations where stimulation of gastro -intestinal motility might be dangerous . - Contraindicated in patients with pheochromocytoma . - Sensitivity or intolerance to its components . - Do not use in epileptic patients .
Drug Interactions
- Migracid has been suggested that it should not be given to patients receiving MAOIs . - Caution should be observed when using metoclopramide in patients taking other drugs that can also cause extrapyramidal reactions , such as the phenothiazines . - Metoclopramide may diminishe absorption of digoxin from stomach and so decreases the therapeutic effect of digoxin . - Metoclopramide may increases prolactin blood concentrations and therefore interferes with drugs which have a hypoprolactinaemic effect such as bromocriptine . - Concurrent use of paracetamol with anticoagulant , anti-inflammatorydrugs and CNS stimulants are not recommended .
