 Clarimycin Indications (usage)

Clarimycin tablets are indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible strains of the microorganisms .

 Clarimycin Warning & Precautions

"Warnings : As nearly all antibacterial agents , Clarimycin may cause pseudomembranous colitis which may range in severity from mild to life-threatening . Precautions : In the presence of severe renal impairment with or without co-existing hepatic impairment , decreased dosage or prolonged dosing intervals may be appropriate . Pregnancy : Clarimycin should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus . Lactation : Caution should be exercised when Clarimycin is administered to a nursing woman .

 Clarimycin Dosage

"Pharyngitis and tonsilities : 250 mg every 12 hours for 10 days .

Acute maxillary sinusitis: 500 mg every 12 hours for 2 weeks .

Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis due to :

- S. Pneumoniae and M. Catarrhalis : 250 mg every 12 hours for

1-2 weeks .

- H. Influenzae : 500 mg every 12 hours for 1-2 weeks .

Community acquired Pneumoniae due to :

- S. Pneumoniae ,C. Pneumoniae and M.pneumoniae : 250 mg every 12 hours

for 1-2 weeks .

- H. Influenzae : 250 mg every 12 hours for 1 week .

Uncomplicated skin and skin structure : 250 mg every 12 hours for 1-2 weeks .

Mycobacterial infections :

- To prevent Mycobacterial avium disease give 500 mg every 12 hours .

In children the dose is 7.5 mg / kg up to 500 mg every 12 hours .

-To treat dissiminated infection due to mycobacterium avium complex , this medication should be given with one of the antimycobacterial drugs that have shown clinical activity against MAC treatment .

The recommended dose in adults is 500 mg every 12 hours , In children the dose is 7.5 mg / kg up to 500 mg every 12 hours .

 Clarimycin Adverse Reactions

"The majority of side effects are of mild nature such as nausea , diarrhea , headache , abnormal taste , dyspepsia , abdominal discomfort and rash .

 Clarimycin Contra Indications

" Patients with a known hypersensitivity to clarithromycin or any of the other macrolide antibiotics .

- Concomitant administration of Clarimycin with pimozide , Cisapride or terfenadine is contraindicated .

 Clarimycin Drug Interactions

"Clarimycin interacts with the following drugs :

Theophylline , carbamazepine ,terfenadine , omeprazole , zidovudine , didanosine , fluconazole , digoxin , anticoagulants , ergotamine , dihydroergotamine , triazolam , and drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 system .
