Indications
Adcokion is indicated in treatment and prevention of haemorrhage associated with vitamin K1 deficiency. Haemorrhage or threatened haemorrhage during severe hypoprothrombinaemia (i.e. deficiency of coagulation factor II, VII, IX and X) or haemorrhage caused by anticoagulant overdose. Also it is indicated in physiological hypoprothrombinaemia in the newborn. hypovitaminosis K e.g. as a result of obstructive jaundice, liver and intestinal disorders, prolonged administration of antibiotics, sulfonamides or salicylates.
Warning & Precautions
As Adcokion contains Aspartame, excessive use of aspartame should be avoided in patients with phenylketonuria since one of its metabolic products is phenylalanine. Do not repeat the same prescription without consulting the physician. Do not interrupt the period of treatment prescribed for you by yourself. This medicament is a product which affects your health and its consumption contrary to instructions is dangerous for you.

Adcokion is given by mouth. Single doses above 20 mg and total doses above 40 mg impede the resumption of anticoagulant therapy without offering any advantage. 1-Haemorrhage or threatened haemorrhage in the newborn: Prophylaxis: 1- 2 chewable tablets to the mother from 48 hours to at the latest 2 hours before delivery. 2-Haemorrhage or threatened haemorrhage due to anticoagulants of the coumarin or indandione series. Mild hemorrhage: One chewable tablet If the quick value or thrombotest value does not rise sufficiently within 8 to 12 hours or haemorrhage continues, a further dose, increased if necessary, should be given. The pleasant tasting tablets should be chewed thoroughly or allowed to dissolve slowly in the mouth.
Adverse Reactions
Rare instance of dizziness, rapid and weak pulse, sweating, hypotension, dyspnea and cyanosis have been reported. Administration of vitamin K1 to neonates, especially premature infants, has been associated with the development of haemolytic anaemia, hyperbilirubinaemia.
Contra Indications
It should not be given to neonates or premature infants or to mother during late pregnancy. Hypersensitivity to phytomenadione or any of the excipients.
Drug Interactions
Coumarine and its derivatives antagonize the effect of vitamin K1 on the post-translational carboxylation of certain clotting factors and inhibitors. Coadministration of anticonvulsants can impair the action of phytomenadione.
