Indications
Alcofan is indicated for the management of pain, for the management of the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and for treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.
Warning & Precautions
It is used with caution in impaired renal functions, heart failure, liver dysfunction, fluid retention & hypertension.

Dosage
To be dispensed and repeated under medical supervision only. As directed by the physician or as follows: Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis: The recommended starting dose of ketoprofen in adult healthy patients is 50 mg four times a day, smaller doses should be utilized initially in small individuals, in debilitated or elderly patients. The recommended maximum daily dose of ketoprofen is 300 mg/day. Management of pain and Dysmenorrhea: The usual dose for mild to moderate pain and dysmenorrhea is 25 to 50 mg every 6 to 8 hours as necessary. A smaller dose should be utilized initially in small individuals, in debilitated or elderly patients, or in patients with renal or liver disease. The dose must be taken after meal.
Adverse Reactions
The most frequent side effects occurring with Ketoprofen are gastrointestinal disturbances, peptic ulceration and gastrointestinal bleeding have been reported. Other side effects include: dizziness, nervousness, skin rash, pruritis, tinnitus, oedema, abnormalities of liver function tests and impairment of renal functions have occasionally been observed.
Contra Indications
Ketoprofen is contraindicated in patients who have shown hypersensitivity to it, it should not be given to patients in whom aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs induce asthma, urticaria or other allergic type reactions because severe, rarely fatal, anaphylactic reactions to ketoprofen have been reported in such patients. Gel is not recommended in cases: Exudative dermatoses, eczema, infected skin and lesions. Do not apply to the mucous membranes or eyes.
Drug Interactions
Co-administration of Ketoprofen with, Aspirin, Diuretics, Warfarin , Probenecid, Methotrexate & Lithium are not recommended .
