Indications
Amoclox capsules are indicated in the following conditions: - Infections of the ear , nose & throat due to Streptococcus species ( α & β hemolytic strains only ) , Streptococcus pneumoniae , Staphylococcus species or H. influenzae. - Infections of the genitourinary tract due to E.coli , P. mirabilis or E. faecalis.
- Infections of the skin & skin structures due to Streptococcus species (α & β hemolytic strains only ) , Staphylococcus species or E. coli.
- Infections of the lower respiratory tract due to Streptococcus species (α & β hemolytic strains only ) , Streptococcus pneumoniae , Staphylococcus species or H. influenzae.
- Gonorrhea , acute uncomplicated ano-genital & urethral infections due to N. gonorrhoeae ( males & females ).
- Biliary tract infections.
- Burn and wound infections .
- In the treatment of early symptoms of Lyme disease .
- Typhoid fever.


Warning & Precautions
- Serious hypersensitivity ( anaphylactic ) reactions have been reported in patients on penicillin therapy. - Before initiating therapy with amoclox, careful inquiry should be made concerning previous hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins , cephalosporins or other allergens . If an allergic reaction occurs , amoclox should be discontinued & appropriate therapy instituted. - Pseudomembranous colitis should be considered as a diagnosis in patients who present with diarrhea subsequent to the administration of amoclox ( due to amoxicillin content ). - Possibility of superinfections with mycotic or bacterial pathogens should be kept in mind during therapy. If superinfections occur, Amoclox should be discontinued - safety for use in pregnancy has not been established . -Penicillins are excreted in human milk . Amoclox use by nursing mothers may lead to sensitization of infants , thus, caution should be exercised .

For adults :one capsule every 8 hours .

Adverse Reactions
- Gastrointestinal : nausea , vomiting , diarrhea & hemorrhagic/ pseudomembranous colitis. - Hypersensitivity reactions : pruritus , urticaria , skin rashes.

Contra Indications
A history of allergic reaction to any of the penicillins is a contraindication

Drug Interactions
• Probenecid decreases the renal tubular secretion of amoclox & may result in increased &prolonged levels of amoclox . • Chloramphenicol ,macrolides ,sulfonamides & tetracyclines may interfere with the bactericidal effects of amoclox .
